Topic of Lesson:  Historical events of the mid to late 20th century

Duration:  1 session to introduce and provide tutorials, 2 sessions to work on, homework

Objectives:  SWL about important historical events and when they occurred.   SWL learn how to create using MovieMaker.

Description:  Students will choose one of three precut segments from We didn’t start the fire by Billy Joel to look at the historical events he references.  Students will dissect their chosen segment of the song to begin understanding each of the historical references.  SW write a brief explanation of each event.   You will also use MovieMaker to create an original video using song, image and creativity. 

 

Procedure:  SW understand project based on classroom instructions and watching this sample project.  SW understand how to use MovieMaker based on classroom instructions and by following this tutorial.  SW select the segment of the song that they would like to remix and import it into MovieMaker.  SW then begin researching each historical event referenced.  SW describe each event briefly.  I have provided Prezi.com as an example.   SW select still images from the preset selections or search out original images that represent each event.  SW site images and music where necessary.  SW edit music along with images to create an historical video.  Projects will be sent to me in email form.
